Wabash Boys Tennis records TRC win over Rochester Boys tennis moves to 7-5 on the season and 3-0 in TRC conference play with a solid 3-2 win over Rochester. "This was a good win for us. Rochester has traditionally been a challenge for us. Today, we were able to find the 3 points to get the win in some tightly contested matches across the board. Both teams matched up well in terms of strenghts, which made for a fun match that wasn't decided until near the end." Coach Mattern First of the court this evening was the 1 doubles duo of Alex Dinkins and Cooper Long. Winning convincingly with a two set 6-2, 6-1 score, the doubles duo controlled the points and were the aggressors throughout the match. Both served well, a must in doubles action, forcing the Rochester doubles team to play defense early in each point. Troy Guenin-Hodson also had a convincing win, playing his style of tennis. Using his athleticism and ability to keep the ball in play, Guenin-Hodson cruised to 6-0, 6-2 victory. 'Troy is a tough out for any team. He keeps the ball in play so well. Troy also plays soccer for WHS, his conditioning is on point, and his natural speed allow him to chase town what would typically be a winner. He is able to frustrate his opponents, causing unforced errors. Truly, it's tough to beat Troy." Coach Mattern. Grant Ford, after being down a set (4-6) found another gear and played free and aggressively to take the next two sets 6-1, 6-1. This win sealed the win for the Apaches. Coach Mattern shared, "To see Grant play to that caliber was very impressive. Coach Ford and I knew he had it in him, we see it everyday at practice. I believe this could truly serve as a breakout match for him. Successfully transferring how a player competes in practice to a match can be tough, Grant has made that transfer as of tonight." Eli Mattern played a highly contested match losing 5-7, 5-7. Giving Rochester a point at 2 singles. TJ Fritter and Ashton Coffman also lost to Rochester at two doubles. Coffman and Fritter started hot, winning the first set 6-2. The second set went to Rochester 2-6, the final set was a 5-7 loss for Wabash. In JV action Spencer Stout won 2 matches, Dylan Pence and Nick Perkins also won a pair of matches. TJ Tracy and Cael McCann won a tightly contested match 7-5.
