Wabash Varsity Apaches Keep It Close Against Peru, Lose On Walkoff

A walk-off left Wabash Varsity Apaches on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Peru on Wednesday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth when an error scored one run. Peru opened the scoring in the third after W Rodriguez hit a solo home run to center field. Wabash Varsity Apaches took the lead in the top of the seventh. Elijah Elzroth singled, scoring two runs, to give Wabash Varsity Apaches the leg up, 3-2. L Musser flew out, which helped Peru tie the game at three in the bottom of the seventh. J Boswell earned the win for Peru. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and three runs (one earned) over eight innings, striking out four and walking two. Haiden McWhirt took the loss for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The hurler went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering one run (zero earned) on one hit, striking out one and walking one. Cooper Long stepped on the bump first for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The right-handed pitcher surrendered eight hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking three. Elzroth led Wabash Varsity Apaches with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Wabash Varsity Apaches turned one double play in the game. Peru amassed nine hits in the game. Musser and Rodriguez each collected two hits for Peru. Musser and Rodriguez each drove in one run for Peru. Peru turned one double play in the game. Wabash Varsity Apaches will travel to Northwestern for their next game on Monday.
