Wabash Varsity Apaches Walk It Off Against Lewis Cass

It came down to the wire on Monday, as Wabash Varsity Apaches grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4, over Lewis Cass. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the seventh when Remington Cressell singled, scoring one run. Lewis Cass got on the board in the top of the first inning after Wabash Varsity Apaches committed an error, and Gavin Smith singled to center field, each scoring one run. Mackey Sorg singled down the left field line, which helped Wabash Varsity Apaches tie the game at two in the bottom of the third. An error gave Lewis Cass the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fourth. Cooper Long walked, which helped Wabash Varsity Apaches tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth. Lewis Cass took the lead in the top of the seventh. Kaison Hipsher-walker doubled, scoring one run, to give Lewis Cass the upper hand, 4-3. Wabash Varsity Apaches took the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the seventh thanks to singles by Derek Reed, and Cressell. Long earned the win for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and one run (zero earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking none. Julian Davidson took the loss for Lewis Cass. The reliever went one inning, allowing two runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking none. Haiden McWhirt stepped on the mound first for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The right-handed pitcher gave up five hits and three runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Owen Cotner-graves opened the game for Lewis Cass. The starter surrendered four hits and three runs (one earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking three. Sorg led Wabash Varsity Apaches with two hits in four at bats. Reed, Sorg, and Cressell each drove in one run for Wabash Varsity Apaches. Wabash Varsity Apaches ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game. Wabash Varsity Apaches turned one double play in the game. Andy Emmons, Hipsher-walker, and Smith each collected two hits for Lewis Cass.
