Wabash Varsity Apaches Go Down On Final Play Against Caston Varsity Comets

A walk-off left Wabash Varsity Apaches on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to Caston Varsity Comets on Thursday. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the seventh when Logan Mollenkopf singled, scoring one run. Wabash Varsity Apaches fell despite leading 6-2 in the sixth. Wabash Varsity Apaches opened the scoring in the first after Zach Miller drew a walk, scoring one run. Wabash Varsity Apaches added one run in the second. Derek Reed grounded out, making the score 2-0. Caston Varsity Comets tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to an error, and a double by Lucius Edson. Wabash Varsity Apaches took the lead, 5-2, in the top of the third thanks to singles by Jake Sailors, and Treyce Daughtry. Caston Varsity Comets flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 7-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Tucker Woolever that drove in two. Parker Zimpleman earned the win for Caston Varsity Comets. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run over two innings, striking out four and walking one. Cooper Long took the loss for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The right-handed pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking four. Reed started on the mound for Wabash Varsity Apaches. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking two. London Herd started on the bump for Caston Varsity Comets. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and five runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking six. Daughtry led Wabash Varsity Apaches with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Reed and Mackey Sorg each collected two hits for Wabash Varsity Apaches. Miller led Wabash Varsity Apaches with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Daughtry stole three bases.
