The Lady Apaches ran at the Manchester Sectional midmorning this Saturday. With temperatures low and a slight drizzle, the Lady Apaches stepped up the line to fight for their season. Heading into the first mile, the girls were caked with mud and tightly packed into running groups, mixed with all different teams. The Apaches had to work into their 2nd mile to find each other and work their way through the crowds of athletes. with mile one and two going quick, the 3rd mile stretch hit hard. Each Apache pushed themselves to the limit and finished on fumes. As each one crossed the line, their hearts were left out on the course. The Lady Apaches placed eighth overall, missing the mark to qualify as a team. However, the girls were able to pull out a few athletes to qualify as individuals for next Saturday’s race. First for the Lady Apaches was Calisen Kugler, a senior, with a time of 21:53 and a 27th place finish. Kugler placed in the top 15 individuals to qualify for the New Haven Regional. Behind her was junior, Ivy Beamer, coming in with a 22:39 time and taking 39th place. Beamer also placed in the top 15 individuals to qualify and will be going to Regionals next Saturday. Next up on the roster was Haylee Friend, a sophomore, running a time of 23:25 and placing 47th overall to finish out her season. Following in was freshman, Mallory Tart, with a season ending time of 23:36 and crossing the line in 48th place. Close behind her was our senior, Irma Robles, finishing her season running a time of 24:34 and taking 52nd place overall. Next up was Mia Fairchild, finishing up her freshman season placing 53rd overall with a time of 23:39. Sophomore, Maya Howard, finished her season with a time of 25:36 and placing 57th. There were 73 athletes in the race total. The Lady Apaches started their season as a new team filled with more numbers than seen in over a decade. The girls worked hard, pushed each other, and ultimately grew together as a family. Now our running family has another Saturday meet to come and support Kugler and Beamer as they compete on Saturday, October 21st at the Plex in the New Haven Regional.
