Wabash High School

The Wabash High School Boys Cross Country Team qualified for the IHSAA State Finals next weekend by virtue of their 3rd place finish at the New Haven Regional. This marks the 9th time in school history that the Apaches have qualified for the state finals and the first team in 24 years to do so. The team joins the 1999, 1998, 1977, 1976, 1956, 1948, 1947, and 1946 teams as the other state qualifiers in school history. Even more impressive is the fact that this feat was accomplished in a single class tournament, meaning that all schools regardless of size compete in the same tournament against each other. If you look at the other schools that advanced to this year's state finals Wabash is by far the smallest boys team in the field. With an enrollment of around 460 the Apaches are the only public school under 1000 students to advance to the state finals. Next week our guys will toe the line with the likes of Carmel (enrollment 5327), Fishers (3611 students) and Penn (3345 students), among others. In total, 22 of the 25 teams that qualified for the state finals have an enrollment of over 1000 students with 15 of them boasting enrollments of 2000 plus students. To say this is an accomplishment for small schools is an understatement. These Apaches have made Wabash High School and the community proud! In the race of 250 athletes, senior Kaden Vogel was the first Apache to cross the line in 22nd place. Jonas Church and Isaiah Cordes were not far behind, coming in 30th, and 31st respectively. Brett Shull made great moves coming in 36th. Jace Bullins collapsed at the line after coming in 50th. Ezra Church was not far behind in 69th. Chase Howard's strong effort led to a 170th place finish.
