The Wabash High School girls cross country team competed at the IHSAA Cross Country Sectional #6 at Manchester on Saturday, October 17, finishing sixth as a team in a highly competitive field. With the top five teams advancing, the Lady Apaches narrowly missed team qualification, but went from an estimated ranking separation of 40+ points to being only 4 points away. This is an incredible feat, showing just how hard the Apaches worked toward qualifying together and truly closing the gaps to bring their score down. All of the girls ran with intention and found themselves truly leaving it all out on the course. Teresina Cordes, Sutton Stoffel, Mya Golliher, and Chloe Cooper will be continuing their seasons into next week as they qualified as individuals for Regionals! Cordes led the Lady Apaches with a second-place finish in 18:04.2. Sutton Stoffel followed with a 22nd-place finish in 20:51.3 (which is a tie of her career PR), while Mya Golliher crossed the line in 39th place in 21:53.3. Senior Chloe Cooper finished 45th in 22:49.5, a career PR, followed by Mallory Tart wrapped up her last high school XC season in 53rd place in 23:29.9. Mia Fairchild finished her high school career in 54th place in 23:30.5. Emma Cantrell rounded out the Wabash finishers in 61st place with a time of 25:33.5, another PR for her on the Manchester course. The Lady Apaches have put in countless miles, challenging workouts, and hours of hard work throughout the season. Their sectional performance reflects the dedication, perseverance, and commitment they have shown to one another all year. Although the team fell just short of advancing together, the season's accomplishments extend far beyond one race. These athletes have continued to grow, push one another, and represent Wabash with pride. We are proud of every Lady Apache who stepped to the starting line and gave her best throughout the season. One pace. One purpose. One family. Here’s to Regionals next Saturday where the Fantastic Four will be competing at Manchester again!
