Varsity vs Lewis Cass Jr-Sr High School Wabash Boy’s Tennis traveled to Lewis Cass for a TRC Conference match up on a beautiful Monday evening. Wabash succumbed to the Kings losing in a much tighter match than the 1-4 team score would indicate. “We had a solid win from Mattern at 1 singles. Long and Coffman both won highly competitive first sets but were unable to pull out wins at 2 singles and 3 singles respectively. Three set matches are a grind and test a player physically and mentally, we continue to grow as players, decision making and shot selection will be key for us moving forward.” Coach Mattern The lone win for the Apaches came at 1 singles. After the feeling out stage of the match, Mattern took control and played his way to a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 victory. Long found himself in a slugfest at 2 singles fighting his way to a 6-4 first set. The following sets were more of the same in a very captivating match with both players leaving it out on the court. Long wasn’t able to seal the win in the end losing 5-7, 4-6 in the final two sets. At 3 singles, Coffman started strong winning 6-4 in set one. Behind some inspired play by Ellington Coffman lost the last two sets 0-6, 3-6. Pence and Shepler showed some grit at 1 doubles. After falling 0-6 in set one, the duo had a lead in games in set two before losing 3-6. Tracy and McKenzie also continue to improve. Losing set 1 1-6, the two doubles team fought back to a 4-6 second set. Wabash hosts Blufton at scenic Honeywell Courts. Wabash is now 3-7 on he season and 1-1 in TRC Conference play.
