Wabash Tennis Travels to Bluffton for a Non-Conference Match up. The Wabash Apache Tennis team took the long drive across 124 to play Bluffton Tuesday evening. Competitive matches were played at 1 and 2 singles, leading to some fun tennis for the fans. Cooper Long continues his winning ways. At 2 singles Long played aggressive leading to a first set score of 6-1 to his advantage. Moving into the 2nd set, Abbett raised his level of play, challenging Long with his ability to get all balls back in play. Ultimately Long prevailed in a 2nd set tie breaker 7-4 to gain the Apaches their sole point on the night. 1 singles turned into a battle of body and spirit during the almost 3 hour match. Mattern started off a bit slow, losing set 1 4-6 to Lantz of Bluffton. Focusing on footwork and movement lead to much more aggressive playmaking to take set 3 comfortably 6-3. The final set was a battle of attrition. After two spirited sets, both players looked to find an advantage to seal the win. In the end, Lantz was able to break Mattern's serve in the last game to take the match with a extra-inning 7-5 score. Dylan Pence had his hands full with Lambert, a talented Freshman, and lost his match 2-6, 0-6. Karson McKenzie and Reed Wiles paired up for the first time at 1 doubles this year. After losing 0-6 in the first set, the Apache duo fought hard to compete in the second set. Leading most of the way in the second set prior to falling 5-7, McKenzie and Wiles showed in match improvement. Also paired for the first time this year, TJ Tracy and Carter Pegg started slow losing set one 0-6. Finding some consistency and working to play together, the duo was able to force many deuce games before falling 2-6. in the second set. In JV action Eli Dafoe lost a highly contested match 3-6, 4-6. Showing improvement in his swing and fundamentals in this match was a plus for Dafoe. Also, Noah White competed at singles falling 0-6, 1-6.
