The Wabash Apaches girls cross country team set off early Saturday morning to race at the Chuck Schlemmer Memorial race at West Noble. The Lady Apaches showed grit and determination as they tackled a course filled with tough slopes and rolling hills. Coming off one of their most demanding weeks of practice, the girls were prepared to push both mentally and physically to rise to the challenge. Each athlete embraced the grind of the terrain, attacking the inclines with strength built from long training sessions and powering through the descents with control and focus. The work they put in throughout the week was evident, as their endurance carried them across every slope the course had to offer. The girls were able to place 13th out of 19 complete teams with 27 schools represented in the race. First for the team was Mya Golliher who came in with a time of 21:36. Golliher snagged 30th place, earning a plaque. The next Apache into the shoot was Mia Fairchild with a time of 21:44 and taking 35th place along with a plaque. Next up was Mallory Tart, with a time of 22:54 in 74th place. Pushing into the finish was Emma Cantrell with a time of 26:44, and placing 137th overall. Completing the team score with a fight to the end time was senior Maya Howard. Placing 138th, she had her season debut time of 26:53. In their race, there were 152 runners. With each race, the Wabash girls continue to show they can conquer not just the course, but the obstacles that come with being a competitive team. This performance was another strong step forward in what’s shaping up to be a memorable season. The next time you can find the Apaches will be when they race on their own territory on Tuesday! This will also be where we recognize our seniors.
